Six rodeo legends – Trevor Brazile, Charmayne James, Bobby Mote, Cody Ohl, Sid Steiner and Fred Whitfield – will lead teams whose names, chosen by Kid Rock, were each inspired by a classic rock or R&B music hit. Coaches will draft two athletes in each discipline (four in team roping) for five teams, and the final team will come from the Corpus Christi WCRA qualifying event, where undrafted competitors earn a spot in AT&T Stadium.
The six teams will compete head-to-head in barrel racing, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling and breakaway roping. Using a format similar to drag racing, each discipline will see two competitors performing their sport at the exact same time competing for the best time.
As competitive as it gets. A thrilling evolution of rodeo for fans. Each team will compete in a bracket in each discipline.
In between Kid Rock performing live in concert, teams will compete in a tournament-style bracket for a share of the purse, facing off head-to-head to earn medals through three rounds of competition.
Each bracket will be randomly seeded. In Round 1, each winning team advances. The losing team with the best time/score will advance to the wildcard position in the second round of each bracket.
The winning team of each discipline bracket earns one gold medal. The two teams with the most gold medals after all brackets have been decided will compete in the Championship Mach. Silver medals will be awarded in each discipline and used to determine a tie breaker if necessary.
